The Data Journalism Training Program, designed by Dataninja and EDJNET, introduced participants to the use of data in newsrooms, establishing the foundations of working in data journalism.

The program received significant interest, with 717 applicants joining the waiting list and 416 students ultimately enrolling on the platform, and ran from September 2023 to July 2024.

The core training content is the Data Journalism Foundation Module, covering topics such as understanding data, learning how to structure data in tables, finding data in public repositories or thorough crowdsourcing and FOIA, and evaluating data sources for trustworthiness.

Other than the Data Journalism Foundations Module, students were offered the possibility to enrich their learning experience through additional educational experiences, for example live webinars, specialization modules (spreadsheets, data visualization…) and mentorship for hands-on projects.
